The Secret to Clear Skin

Writer's picture: izzzykateizzzykate

Picture this - no more dermatologist appointments, less color corrector, and more self-confidence. Sounds like something from a dream right? What if I told you the secret on how to finally make your dreams a reality?

You must be familiar with what feels like a never ending battle when it comes to putting on makeup, when your skin just isn't cooperating. You've been there, Ive been there, Sis, we've all been there!

Can you relate to any of these?

- By the end of the day, your makeup has creased into your smile lines

- You get shiny on your forehead, chin, and nose

- Your skin is so dry, your foundation is flaking

- You're pumped to try a new product, and you break out

I am sure you have experienced at

least one of those, if not a combination, no pun intended!

If you don't yet already know what your skin type is, click here to take the quiz!

By knowing your skin type, it can

change the whole game - and I'm not only talking about what makeup products you use, but in what order. The same goes for your skincare routine; whether the steps you take or products you use, your routine can make it or break it.

Its time to face the facts, and go back to the basics. I don't know why they continue to call foundation like it is, because before you even apply foundation, 3 major things have to happen first!

In this post, I will cover:

- 3 Steps to add to your makeup routine that change the game

- Which key ingredients to look for in products for your skin type

- Products being used by peers who have experienced similar frustrations

- Product recommendations to help you stay within your budget!

1. If you add these three things to your makeup routine, its game over for everyone and everything else!

Step 1.

- Make sure all makeup is completely removed from the night before. I know that personally I am already half asleep when I take off my makeup before bed, and end up only getting half the job done. You can make sure to get *everything off by either going over your face with a makeup wipe (I really like this kind)

Step 2.

- Wash your face with a gentle cleanser. Using a harsh cleanser can strip your face of its natural oils, even if your skin type is oily! Later in this post, I list a few different face cleansers that are more specifically tailored to your needs. Then, using a cotton pad soaked in witch hazel, especially if you tend to have puffy face when you wake up, using a toner tightens skin and relieves inflammation.

Step 3.

- Whether you believe in using primer or not (it's ok, I change my mind about primer often) it's important for you to moisturize - yes even if your skin type is oily. There are different types of moisturizers that can control excess oil production, and also keep you skin texture smooth!

2. Instead of doing detective work on our skincare products, it’s a lot easier to follow the popularity vote and opt for products with a cult following, especially in the age of beauty influencers. But that’s not always the best route. As simple as it would be, there’s no one-size-fits-all skincare solution.

Once you know your skin type, it makes picking out the best foundation or face soap that much easier!

For oily skin: Look for products containing alpha hydroxy acids (glycolic acid or salicylic acid), benzoyl peroxide, and hyaluronic acid. These ingredients are effective at controlling excess oil production while hyaluronic acid will produce hydration only in areas needed.

For dry skin: Look for products containing shea butter and lactic acid. These ingredients provide hydration and mild exfoliation to give dry skin a healthy glow.

For sensitive skin: Look for products containing aloe vera, oatmeal, and shea butter. They’re good moisturizers and they usually don’t break anyone out.

3. After doing some research, I asked a few women who have experienced similar frustrations, what their current go-to products are, to help combat the daily struggles that their skin type presents.

- Confidence In a Cream (not to pick favorites, but I really like this one!)

4. You might be asking yourself, 'What products are good for me, but won't break the bank?'

I personally have combination skin, and find myself asking the same question! Combination skin is like the best of both worlds right? Doesn't anyone have normal skin, that just stays in its own lane?

Don't forget, no matter your skin type, it's important to moisturize! There of different types of moisturizers on the market created for each skin type.

I must admit, I haven't personally used all of these products, although, some of them have been apart of my routine for years!

Heres a list of 10 products that will not only help your skin, but also your bank

account!

- CeraVe PM lotion is one of my personal faves!

- Botanics All Bright Foaming Face Wash for only $5.99 at Target!

- Neutrogena Oil-Free Daily Sensitive Skin Moisturizer, this one is very similar to the CeraVe, but cheaper!

Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser is super gentle, and doesn't irritate!

- Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Facial Moisturizer, helps calm and soothe dry, sensitive skin.

- e.l.f Daily Hydration Moisturizer, for only $8.00 and it lasts forever!

What I love about these products is that they are all free from Parabens, Sulfates, and Phthalates!
